The Pros And Cons Of Windows And Linux

January 2nd, 2012

Linux and Windows, both well known operating systems, have beneficial and detrimental components. With Windows, you have the obvious fact that it’s so popular that most applications are made to run on it. With Linux, you have a free operating system that gives you more security and flexibility. This article will show you several reasons for choosing either Linux or Windows based upon your preferences.

If you prefer an operating system with flexibility, you will absolutely love Linux for what it offers. The fact that it is distributed by many different companies is part of the flexibility component of the software. Windows, as everyone knows, is only made by Microsoft, one of the largest technology companies in the world. The personal computing industry is literally controlled by the Windows OS and few others can compete in the same way. Another large company, Apple, is also the sole provider of its Macintosh line of computers. Interaction and help, with the Linux system is completely user based. This means if you have a problem, you will have to go to a forum for help on one of the many different websites available.

You might think that it would be hard to find support if you use Linux. A lot of the technical support that can be found, is dealing with problems for users of Windows, mainly because Windows is used by most people. This isn’t actually the case, though. You might have to do a little searching, but you will find some good tech support for Linux. There is an informal way about forums, but that is where you will need to go to get help. In most cases, if you mention a problem or question on a Linux forum, you’ll get an answer quite promptly. Technical support is available, but it will be different from when you buy a computer with Windows, and you get official support.

Although Windows is great for PCs, if you need to do networking, Linux is the way to go. Although many people have a Windows operating system, few know about its networking capabilities. This is because they are hard to not only hard to find but also difficult to operate.

Linux offers a very good networking system, part of the software itself and is very easy to use. Almost anyone can benefit from this whether you are a business or individual. Anyone with more than one computer may be able to gain advantages by connecting them, along with various devices such as printers, modems and sound cards. If you have any interest in networking, Linux has a lot to offer and may be worth trying.

Everyone using a computer will not like the same system. There are good and bad points that come with both Linux and Windows. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes. You might like Linux, if you like knowing how things work on the inside. Windows is the best option for all of those people who like things when they are user friendly.
